the world turned upside down
The world turned upside down, and I did too. My life has been a bit crazy over the past…5 months? 6??? The last time I wrote was back in February and I have been pretty silent since. Things have been challenging for me lately and I entered this quarantine on a bad foot. My mental health has been a struggle for me for a while and social distancing has kind of enhanced it, to say I have had a block would be a major understatement.
With everything happening in the world I didn’t feel like I had anything of value to say and did not want to add an unnecessary voice into the mix. I have so many strong feelings right now about the virus (wear a mask), supporting Black Lives Matter, and voting. I do not wish to be divisive but all of these things are important. Wearing a mask is not political, its an act of kindness for your fellow humans to keep them safe. Supporting BLM is not political, it is working to give people who have been marginalized the same rights as everyone else. I strongly believe in these causes and also think one of the best ways to make our feelings known is to vote and create change.
I will leave it at this and get back to regularly scheduled programing.
As I mentioned before, I had been in a major rut. Luckily, in the past few weeks things are starting to flow a little more easily. I have taken steps to towards being creative again and it feels really good. I owe this to one thing, my puppy. I was lucky enough to be one of the many people who has gotten a quarantine puppy and she has been a huge relief during this scary, uncertain time. Summer (the puppy) has helped me to find joy in each day which has really helped to get me back on track with being creative. She was a touch distracting in the beginning but we are in a good routine these days and I have been creating.
For the past month I have been in my favorite place in the world, St. Simons Island. It has been a major recharge with some visits from friends and family. I have been working on decorating my family’s house here and this is when my creative lightbulb finally clicked back on. I have gotten to do a lot of decorating, shopping (two of my favorite things!) and most recently, painting. I have made two larger pieces that are now hanging here and have inspiration for for a series ofl paintings I am going to get started on. I hope y’all love them as much as I do!
While things remain uncertain throughout the world and we wait for things to normalize even just a little bit I am going to strive to keep sharing my voice and creating things that add something to the world, however small.
Stay safe and be kind.
